I've been in the stage gear business for over a decade, and one question keeps coming back from mobile DJs, small bands, and rental guys:
"Can I buy just one stand that holds my speaker during the first set, then holds a moving head light later that night?"
Until a few years ago, I'd say no – you need separate stands. But now? Yeah, you can. But only if you pick the right one.
Let me tell you what actually fails on cheap stands, and why our Luxsound SS984 and SS980R are different. No fluff – just what I've learned from shipping thousands of units to working pros.
What DJs ask me before buying
Almost every week, someone writes to us asking:
"Will this thing tip over on grass? I do outdoor weddings."
"I have a 35lb speaker. Can I also clamp a small light on the same pole?"
"How do I stop the stand from sliding down when I adjust height? That scares me."
"Is there a pin that locks automatically? I don't want to mess with twist locks."
These are real concerns. Not marketing talk. So here's how we built our heavy duty speaker stand to answer every single one.
First: the base – 12.5kg of steel, not plastic
You see a lot of "lighting stand square" bases that look fine in a store but wobble like crazy outdoors. Our base is 12.5 kg (27.5 lbs) of heavy steel. That's not a typo. Why so heavy? Because an outdoor speaker stand needs mass. Wind, uneven ground, drunk guests bumping into it – a light base will fall. Ours won't.
Footprint is 55cm x 50cm – wide enough for stability but not so wide it clutters your stage.
Second: the auto-lock clutch – this saves gear
Most cheap portable dj stand models use a simple friction knob. You tighten, you pray. We use a metal auto-lock clutch – when you raise the inner pole, a steel pin clicks into the hole by itself. No extra hand needed. That's what makes it a true tall dj equipment stand you can trust at full height (240cm / 94.5 inches).
And inside the tube? An air cushion. If you loosen the knob, the stand won't crash down on your fingers or your speaker. It sinks slowly. Small detail, but after you pinch your finger once, you'll never buy a stand without it.
One stand, two jobs – speaker and light
The top plate has an M10 screw hole – that's the standard for lighting fixtures. But it also accepts standard speaker pole mounts. So yes, this is a real speaker light stand combo. You can mount a 15" powered speaker in the afternoon, then swap to a LED par or small moving head at night.
Max height 240cm, min around 120cm. That covers most DJ booths, small stages, and dance floors.

Why buy from a factory like Luxsound instead of a reseller?
I'll be honest – you see the same generic stands on Amazon with different stickers. But we actually make them. Welding, powder coating, assembly – all in our own shop. That means:
Quality control – every stand is load tested before packing. No guesswork.
OEM custom – want a different color base? Your logo on the pole? Shorter or taller version? Just ask. We do it.
Direct price – no middleman markup.
We've sold to DJs, rental houses, churches, and production companies. Many came to us after breaking two cheap stands in one season.
Common worry: "12.5kg is heavy to carry, right?"
Yes, it's heavier than a cheap aluminum stand. But think about it: a portable dj stand that falls over during a live show is useless – no matter how light it is. Ours collapses to about 120cm length, fits in a padded bag, and you carry it once. The stability is worth the extra weight.
Where do people actually use this stand?
Outdoor weddings on grass or pavement
Mobile DJ gigs with both speakers and uplighting
Small concert stages
Church setups (quick change from sermon music to evening event)
Trade show booths
It's a true multipurpose stage stand – not a one-trick pony.
Let's talk about your setup
Every gig is different. Maybe you need a non-slip rubber pad for marble floors. Maybe you need a different height. Tell me what you're mounting – speaker weight, light type, outdoor or indoor.
Email us directly or leave a comment below. I'll reply with a recommendation or a custom OEM quote. No automated nonsense – just real advice from the factory floor.
Luxsound – we build stands that don't let you down at 2am.
